With the beginning of paid
channels on dstv mobile, you
now have to pre-pay for the
service before you can start
watching the mobile tv service
on your device
On a capable device such as the
Nokia 5330, the mobile dstv
service has been made available
by DSTV in partnership with
telecoms companies like MTN, Glo
and others.
For about a year, this service had
been free for a while with about
14 channels being viewed by
numerous subscribers. I guess it
was the service provider's way of
allowing users to get used to it.
In order to start watching mobile
tv on your phone, you need to
have it configured for the service.
Things you will need to start
watching dstv mobile:
- A capable device
- Sufficient airtime on your sim
- A mobile internet connection
If you've got all those, you can
now follow these steps to setup
your phone for mobile tv
- Make sure your antennae is
plugged in so as to be ready to
view mobile tv
- Ensure that you phone has
already been configured for
mobile browsing. It needs to be
able to connect to the web. You
can also subscribe to the N100
daily plan just for the sake of
setting up your DSTV mobile
- Make sure you have sufficient
credit on your phone. The mini
package costs N170 while the
maxi costs N400
- Open the Mobile tv window
- Allow it to retrieve channels.
Some channels will be show for
free. For Nigeria, NTA and
Channel 0 are free
- Navigate to your desired
channel. If it says This content
needs to be purchase before
viewing, then click on purchase
- Click yes to accept the terms by
Nokia
- Navigate to the Channel
package and select the one you
want to purchase and ensure
that you have sufficient credit
- Accept the dstv mobile terms
- Verify the channels available on
that package
- Click on purchase
- The request will be sent to the
server using gprs and when your
subscription keys are ready and
sent to you, the amount will be
deducted from your credit and
you can start watching mobile
dstv
At times, your channels start
showing almost immediately else
it may take a few minutes or
hours.
